Supervision
I had a wonderful supervisor throughout my master’s program, my CES Ph.D. program, and throughout my supervision hours for my LPC. He was kind, encouraging, supportive and gave advice or suggestions when they were needed. He helped me to gain confidence, hone my counseling skills, and gain a better understanding of treatment planning and goals for the clients and the sessions. With my own experience as a supervisor, I have tried to emulate him by helping counselors gain skills, confidence, and areas for growth and improvement. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching and supervising the master’s level skills classes and received a lot of positive feedback from the professor and the students. One important component of supervision is understanding the skill level of the supervisee and working with them accordingly. The main purpose is to see continued growth no matter where a supervisee is coming from. It has been wonderful to see the growth of the students I have worked with throughout the CES program, and I look forward to helping many more counselors-in-training in the future.
